What would you do if you only had 8 years left to live?
What in your life would you change first? Your job? Your relationships? Your city?
8 years isn’t a short amount of time, but it also isn’t long enough for you to waste.
That’s 2,922 days (including leap years).
As the days count down, 2,921, 2,920, 2,919… you realize quickly how finite your time is. Urgency will set in.
If you had 10 years, you may say, I’ll work the first four at a job I hate so the last six will be more enjoyable.
If you only had 5 years, you’d probably start to panic and make rash decisions.
8 years is the sweet spot between long term decision making and short term happiness and gratification.
If you’re a parent, what values and experiences would you want to leave your children with before you go?
What would you want to show them about work, passion, and finding your purpose in life?
Since I started thinking about this idea, I’ve been reassessing my own life.
What changes do I want to make?
To me, the biggest takeaway is another question:
How do I find a way to change from a job I work to a job that works for me?
That’s where my 2025 journey begins.
At the start of 2025, I left the company I founded to pursue new ideas and set about creating new things I wish existed in the world. Things that genuinely help people out in new ways.
I’ll be sharing more about this as my journey continues.
